The Latest Treatment Methods
Paden Eye Care Center in Medford, OR is equipped with the most advanced medical equipment available, along with today’s most advanced laser technologies. Glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration can be treated as in-office procedures, affording you the ultimate in convenience and efficiency. If you need cataract surgery, you’ll feel confident knowing it will be performed at Dr. Paden’s Laser and Surgical Eye Center, which is located on the campus of Rogue Valley Medical Center.
To date, Dr. Paden has performed more than 9,000 cataract surgeries, so you know you’re in experienced hands you can trust. Dr. Paden uses the “no-stitch, no-patch, no-injection” method of cataract surgery. With this simple outpatient procedure, your cataract is removed and a modern intraocular lens is implanted to restore your vision. Dr. Paden uses the revolutionary SRK formula to calculate the exact lens power needed for optimal results. Some patients are candidates for AcrySof® IQ® or ReSTOR® lens implants, which can eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses after treatment. There is minimal recovery time with Dr. Paden’s cataract surgery, and most patients can return to their normal activities immediately.
Dr. Paden can address the eye pressure causing glaucoma damage with medication and pressure-reducing eyedrops. One of the newest and most effective methods of treating glaucoma is selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), a procedure that Dr. Paden introduced to Oregon in 2002. SLT may be an excellent alternative if you’ve been treated unsuccessfully with laser surgery or pressure-reducing eyedrops. For patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, Dr. Paden offers laser iridotomy.
At this time, there is no cure for macular degeneration, but Dr. Paden can help slow down the progression of this disease by recommending specific vitamin and mineral supplements and lifestyle changes, such as quitting smoking and eating dark-green leafy vegetables. For the “wet” form of macular degeneration, which can result in severe vision loss, Dr. Paden offers intravitreal injection therapy. This can stop abnormal blood vessel growth and hemorrhage.
If you have diabetes, you are at risk for retinal problems. This disease damages blood vessels in the retina, which is the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. As the disease progresses, these vessels leak, causing swelling of the retina and vision loss. Thankfully, Dr. Paden has extensive experience in diabetic eye disease. He was the first ophthalmologist in Medford, OR to perform focal laser treatment for macular edema, plus he has treated over 2,000 patients who have diabetic cataracts. To minimize the possibility of complications from diabetes, Dr. Paden will recommend preventive-care measures, including periodic eye exams and maintaining good control of blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol. Dr. Paden has pioneered improvements in the laser treatment of diabetic macular edema.
Pterygium is a benign thickening of the outer coating of the eye that grows onto the cornea. It can become irritated and even disrupt vision. Dr. Paden’s advanced pterygium surgery technique offers excellent cosmetic outcomes and an extremely low recurrence rate.
