Dr. Philip Y. Paden is a board-certified ophthalmologist with years of specialized training and over two decades of experience. At Paden Eye Care Center in Medford, OR, Dr. Paden offers today’s most advanced diagnostic and treatment methods for a wide range of vision problems, including cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.

 

In 1986, Dr. Paden joined the practice of Dr. John T. Weisel and Dr. John A. Retzlaff, who were part of a renowned ophthalmology group that developed the Sanders-Retzlaff-Kraff (SRK) formulas. SRK formulas are used to accurately calculate intraocular lens power for cataract surgery. Drs. Weisel and Retzlaff have since retired, and Dr. Paden has relocated his practice, moving into his current location in 2002.

 

Dr. Paden is always looking ahead — researching and introducing new ways to provide a higher level of patient care. For example, Dr. Paden was the first ophthalmologist in southern Oregon to seriously approach refractive lens procedures by acquiring the ZEISS® IOL Master®, an invaluable diagnostic tool that is used prior to cataract surgery for optimal results. Dr. Paden was also the first ophthalmologist in Oregon to offer selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), which is used to treat glaucoma.

 

In addition, Paden Eye Care Center is one of the first in the United States — to be equipped with the Spectralis® Heidelberg Retina Angiograph and Optical Coherence Tomograph (HRA OCT) unit. The Spectralis provides highly detailed images of the retina by scanning it 40,000 times per second. Plus, Dr. Paden serves as a consultant for some of the world’s largest device manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies. These include Alcon® Corporation, Heidelberg® Engineering and Bio-Logic Aqua® Technologies.
